How do I become a truck driver in Sydney?

Have Held A Class C License (other than a learner's permit) or its equivalent for at least one year.
Pass the Heavy Vehicle Test of Knowledge.

What can I drive with an LR licence?

A truck or bus with two axles and a gross vehicle weight (GMW) of between 4.5 and 8 tonnes is considered a light rigid vehicle. This includes a truck as well as a bus that has more than 12 adult seats in addition to the space for the driver. The possessor of an LR licence is also permitted to pull behind them a trailer that has a GVM of no more than 9 tonnes. .

What does LR mean on a licence?

The person who has a Light Rigid (LR) Licence can drive: Any rigid motor vehicle with a GVM of more than 4.5 tonnes but less than 8 tonnes. Any vehicle with more than 12 seats (including the driver) and a GVM of less than 8 tonnes, like the Toyota Commuter, Toyota Coaster, or Mitsubishi Rosa.

People who have an LR licence can also pull a trailer that doesn't weigh more than nine (9) tonnes GVM.
